Tip: To unlock all of the 120+ playable characters in the game you basically have to finish the Story Mode.
Protip: After you’ve done all the Redux missions, you might find it hard to unlock the Bond missions. To get all the Bond missions and unlock the last of the character, you must first increase the relationship between the officers. Once you’ve done as much as you can through dining and so forth, take them into a battle. When you win, their bond should change from red, to yellow, which will allow you to trigger their prerequisite conversation.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (無双OROCHI2 アルティメット, Musou OROCHI 2 Ultimate) is a third re-release and sequel of Warriors Orochi 3 which continues from the original game's good ending. Akihiro Suzuki returns as the producer and Yōji Noda is the director. The new music in this title was composed by Ayako Toyoda.
The Premium Box includes a complete soundtrack set for the Warriors Orochi series, CD sized character stickers of the entire playable cast, and postcards for the original characters designed by Akihiro Yamada. Pre-order bonuses will be a downloadable serial code for Halloween costumes and postcards for Kaguya, Mitsunari Ishida, and Zhao Yun. These characters were the most popular ones of the three series chosen by my GAMECITY users in a poll.
First print purchases come with a downloadable serial code for DEAD OR ALIVE 5 Ultimate which unlocks collaboration costumes for Kasumi, Momiji, and Ayane.
ChangesEdit
- Everyone has been tweaked to play slightly different than the original game a la Warriors Orochi 2. The maximum level cap is 100 instead of 99; stock experience is capped at 999,999 as opposed to 99,999. Character growth is influenced by weapon enhancements and character parameters, meaning that even maximum leveled characters can still be altered to a degree. Upon maximizing a character's level, players can reset them via a promotion for permanent stat bonuses (via upgrade stones earned per level up) up to three times (or nine after downloading the 1.05 update patch).
- All members in a player's team can fight on the field simultaneously by tapping the down button.
- Each character is given a second personal skill that contributes to the team's overall stats. This skill is unlocked through a character's second promotion.
- Players can play on opposing sides in certain stages during Free Mode.
- 'Triple Rush', a stronger variation of Switch Combos, launches foes into the air for greater combo freedom. It is easier to cancel attacks using this skill. Unique versions are triggered by performing the attack using a specific set of characters, with more than 50 team combinations available.
- All characters can now use 'Midair Type Actions' by pressing R1 while in the air. These drain half the amount of Musou as their grounded R1 counterparts, and can also be used to break out of airborne flinching similar to midair Musou Attacks. Some Dynasty Warriors characters' aerial R1 Type Actions are altered versions of their missing aerial Musou Attack, while a select few Samurai Warriors characters' aerial Type Actions can be used from their jumping charge attack landings.
- Technique-types have a new ability known as the 'Evasion Step': press while being attacked to perform an evasive sidestep.
- Speed and Wonder-types can now have their grounded based cancels work as normal on moves that bring them up into the air; Speed-types will still jump cancel from the ground, while Wonder-types can no longer perform airborne Spirit Charge Cancels through this.
- Two players can activate their teams' Musou to have all six characters attack with a special energy effect. This is called 'Shin Musou Burst'.
- Dynasty Warriors 8's version of horse whistling is present. Press up on the directional pad to use it.
- Characters can now carry four to six items instead of two. The two extra slots are unlocked at level 100. A separate slot is available for saddles. New items are in the game.
- New five-star weapons and unique 'mystic weapons' for the entire cast can be acquired by collecting materials to forge for the former, or completing specific requirements within Story or Free Mode for the latter. New weapon attributes are available. The limit cap for crystals is 999.
- The maximum K.O. count is now 10,000.
- A Samurai Warriors 3-like color editor is available to customize characters' appearances. Unlocked by clearing the final chapter, this feature is restricted to non-downloadable costumes and can only edit certain parts of the costume for characters owned by Team NINJA. It is initially available in Gauntlet Mode, though customized colors are not retained in other gameplay modes.
- Downloadable content so far includes costumes and weapons. Save data and DLC from Warriors Orochi 3 can be transferred to Ultimate, with previously purchased DLC available to purchase free upon release.
ModesEdit
The modes in the original game and Hyper'sDuel Mode return with the following changes.
Story ModeEdit
Four new chapters are added to this entry which highlight two major story arcs:
- The Tale of the Latter Day - Taking place after Hydra's defeat, a new threat emerges in the form of Tamamo whose machinations sow mistrust and discord among the heroes. Has two different endings.
- The Tale of the Former Day - Set before the events of the first game, it explains Orochi's origins and the crime he committed.
Various new side stories for the playable cast are also included. These stories showcase characters who had few appearances in the main story arc.
Gauntlet ModeEdit
A new addition focusing on a five man team. Known as Unlimited Mode in Asian versions, the overall goal is to have these characters survive various trials in order to escape a multi-leveled dungeon; if a character within the players' team perishes, players may choose to wait for their natural resurrection or proceed onwards to the next level without them. Players cannot save until they have completed at least one level and difficulty gradually increases based on their progression. Co-op within this mode has two players control two characters within a single team with the freedom to swap with a single button tap; unused members are controlled by the AI.
Players may select a designated team formation for their party. Effects for this ability are reliant on the party's character and composition, but players generally gain special bonuses or techniques when these formations are activated by at least three characters in their team. Certain techniques may yield different effects when used together. 'Dragon spots' are scattered within each map, and they can either restore health, provide buffs, or warp the party to a different part of the map.
Weapons, levels, and experience earned within this mode can be kept for other modes. An option to further strengthen weaponry can be accessed via rare materials collected from treasure chests throughout the battlefield. These chests may be laden with various traps. Materials can also be earned by completing missions given by a female mystic at the main camp. This mode also contains exclusive items and weapon attributes not seen anywhere else.
Shin Musou BattlefieldsEdit
A renewal of the Musou Battlefields feature. Warriors now cost nothing to change, and in-battle quotes, and notifications can be customized by players.
CharactersEdit
The entire cast from Hyper and Xu Shu will appear with the following new additions.
- Human Nezha
- Kasumi (Dead or Alive 5)
- Sterkenburg Cranach (Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland)
- Sophitia Alexandra (Soulcalibur IV)
Bugs and GlitchesEdit
- Himiko is unable to activate the bonus skills of the Dragon's Eye or Heavenly Sash equipable items.
- In the 'Rescue the Heavenly Emperor' stage, using a healing skill on the Heavenly Emperor as he passes through the escape point will result in an automatic defeat for the player.
- Hideyori Toyotomi uses the 'Mystic Officer' set of dialogue for generic officers in Gauntlet Mode, which is most likely a programming error.
- The PS Vita version cannot render as much enemies on screen.
- In Gauntlet Mode, if Odawara Castle is played, then occasionally at higher miasma levels, enemies will get stuck in a parallel plane between the second and third floor of the northern castle's interior. The only way to get them out is the stand at the stair level between the two floors and have the enemy units drop down gradually from the said plane.

Warriors Orochi 3 (無双OROCHI2, Musou OROCHI 2) is the next installment of the crossover series Warriors Orochi. The theme of this title is to present a heroic drama with several different characters. Various episodes of friendship, romance, and betrayal have been promised to appear. The producer thinks the game's features has 'powered up' the story and action from previous games. He also replied that the title was created to appease fans' demands for another title.
Continuity wise, this title takes place several years after the events in Warriors Orochi 2. The overall story for this title focuses on completely eradicating the Orochi forces. Many people have died during their conflict, and survivors seek to revert their deaths. Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors characters are also given the opportunity to return to their respective time lines.
Early buyers will receive a downloadable serial code granting Santa costumes to Mitsunari, Wang Yuanji, and Da Ji. The Treasure Box release will also include a calendar which has characters represent the months and days individually, an original soundtrack, and an exclusive downloadable serial code for Ma Chao's weapon. Consumers who use Gamecity's shopping service have the option of obtaining a Three Kingdoms or Warring Statesthemed hat.
Only North American copies of the game will be published on a disc for the Xbox 360 version; the PlayStation 3 version will be available as a PSN download and temporarily needs 22GB for the initial download but only 11GB to permanently store. SCEA refuses to publish games without English dubbing on retail discs. This is the second Warriors game to be ported to the west without providing English voice acting, the first being Samurai Warriors Chronicles.
GameplayEdit
- See also Big Star Weapons
Many features and physics changes from Dynasty Warriors 7 are implemented within this title. The town system has been ported; players can initiate conversations with characters in the area, and weapons can be purchased or sold at a weapon shop. Various features within the battlefield ––such as the enemy A.I, missing morale gauge, swimming, and climbing–– additionally carry over. A music select before battle and the removal of a win pose screen affects this title as well.
Even the Switch Attack function remains, although it has been adapted to instead use characters within the player's current team instead of switching weapons. Known under the name 'Switch Combo', the action uses a portion of the Musou Gauge as characters are quickly switched via L2 or R2 (PS3) or the left or right triggers (Xbox 360).
Players can create friendly bonds between playable characters. By doing so, they can alter the story scenario and the characters' attitudes. Bonds can be increased by participating in battle with characters, by accepting character missions during the pre-battle screen and completing them during the stage, or by hosting a banquet in town. Performing a Team Counter a la Warriors Orochi 2 increases the relationship between the character who attacks and the character being rescued. Similar to Samurai Warriors Chronicles, friendly characters may offer weapons for the character's usage.
A majority of the concepts introduced in Warriors Orochi 2 return or have been revised in this game. Triple Attacks are now called 'True Triple Attack' and resemble Trinity Attacks or the Soul Bursts in TRINITY: Souls of Zill O'll. As characters hit their foes, a True Triple Attack gauge will be filled. When it's completely filled, characters can perform a simultaneous attack with all three members of the team; the higher the bonds between them, the stronger the attack. It's possible to swap characters for the attack. A special flash effect is shown when these attacks are used as finishers. All enemies will also drop items when they are defeated by this attack, and every single damaging attack landed on them is counted as a critical hit (originally exclusive to the Technique type).
Every character has the ability to deal critical damage after breaking their opponent's guard. They can continue attack with their normal chain or a C2 after connecting a dash attack, which is called a 'Dash Chain'. As they guard an opponent's attack, characters may choose to initiate a 'Break Guard', a parry used with the normal attack button timed during the enemy's attack to force them into a stagger/guard break state with no damage but with possible followups (airborne enemies are inflicted with massively-slow hit stun instead). Depending on the relationship/bond stats between characters, a successful Break Guard can also trigger a reversal from the inactive team member(s) with them performing their normal attack chain into their C4 attack.
Other traits for this title include:
- A new character type called 'Wonder' is available, and the Speed and Technique types each have reworked mechanics.
- All character types are limited to a single R1 Type Action with the same visual and audio cues. By proxy, they now act more like typical special attacks but still are still somewhat type-dependent. The musou cost for said Type Actions are now fixed to be the same between all characters' types, with Power types having the most musou cost, Speed types having the least and both Technique and Wonder to have the exact same in-between cost.
- Power-type Type Actions are normally powerful attacks, Speed-type Type Actions often have long range and/or fast execution, Technique-type Type Actions are often auxiliary-based launchers (to set up for critical hits) while Wonder-type Type Actions are combination-based attacks that can also be cancelled with a Spirit Charge for notable effectiveness.
- All Type Actions can be used as a reversal when getting hit or blocking attacks much like a Musou Attack, and by proxy can now all be used to interrupt basic attack chains of any kind. All Type Actions akin to the original Power-types' Sure-Killing Arts, also grant full invincibility until their recovery.
- Several characters have changed to new character types.
- The blue spark emitted from landing a critical hit from specific sources is now more clearly visualized.
- New strategies, abilities, and weapon enhancements have been made.
- The function to equip items on the preparation screen for older titles is available once more.
- Musou can now be regained from taking damage.
- Players can collect rare gems and crystals as they defeat generals or finish stages. These can be used to purchase or strengthen weapons.
- Items can be collected and equipped by characters to augment their overall stats or provide them with various advantages.
- Two player co-op is available for home and online play. Voice chat is applicable for online segments. Team Musous are still available.
- Downloadable content will include scenarios, music, costumes, and wallpapers. The DLC costumes in Dynasty Warriors 7 or Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends are not compatible with Warriors Orochi 3 save data.

ModesEdit
The producer remarked that they tried to put in Versus Mode from previous installments, but dropped plans to include it when programming became too difficult. He has no plans to restore it in this title.
Story ModeEdit
In a departure from previous titles, stages in Story Mode are now part of one cohesive storyline divided into four chapters.
Free ModeEdit
Same as various Warriors titles.
Musou BattlefieldsEdit
Players can create their own scenarios after clearing a single battle and can upload them online for other users. Players can edit the officers on the map within a limited 'cost' setting per map. These scenarios can be downloaded with an optional commentary segment available.
Online PlayEdit
Lets players work together to play unlocked stages in either Story or Free Mode. Players need to have the selected stage unlocked in their personal saves before they can play it online. Additional points and stronger weapons can be earned by teaming up with other players.
GalleryEdit
Similar as before but with galleries for attack motions and voice samples.
CharactersEdit
All of the characters who appeared in Musou OROCHI Z are returning in this title. Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends and Sengoku Musou 3 Z characters and visuals are being used for the playable cast. They have the same movesets as these games; characters who did not appear in these titles have the same attire and moveset as their previous playable appearance.
In regards to the Dynasty Warriors cast, select characters from the series now use their weapons from Dynasty Warriors Next. New jumping charges have been included for every weapon type while those with shared movesets also receive altered charge attacks that help differentiate. Characters who had aerial Musou attacks from Dynasty Warriors 7 are restricted to using their first one whereas a few who had alternate Musou Attacks now utilize them in this game, with some characters' new R1 Type Actions being possible alternate versions of their missing Musou Attack.
For the Samurai Warriors characters, their True Musou is now replaced by their Ultimate Musou. Furthermore, the animation speed of their attacks has been increased to keep them on par with the rest of the cast, as well as featuring certain new animations up to date due to their base movesets being largely unchanged from their home series even up to this game. Unlike in in the two previousinstallments, all characters save for Kojirō, Musashi and Goemon retain their missing C5/C9 attacks. Some of their R1 Type Actions however, may be reprisals of their Special Skills from their home series, which is especially true for the Special moveset-type characters.
The following lists new characters in the game.
Characters outside of the Warriors franchises will appear in this title and are called 'Collaboration Characters' (コラボキャラクター). These characters will star in their own stages within the game. The producer noted that adding Tecmo characters within a Koei product is something that he has always planned after the company's merger. Yousuke Hayashi, the leader of Tecmo's Team Ninja, has expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
The following lists collaboration characters in the game.
- Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden
- Ayane from Dead or Alive
- Joan of Arc from Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War
- Achilles from Warriors: Legends of Troy
- Nemea from TRINITY: Souls of Zill O'll

A four panel comic book called Musou Orochi 2 Special Commander is being published and will be available for purchase in March.
Mitsubishi Electric is also performing a collaboration with this title with its 3D wide display throughout December. Interested fans can watch original content on the screens in various store fronts.
